The 721-meter-long pedestrian suspension bridge opened Friday at a mountain resort in the Czech Republic and is the longest in the world. At 516 meters long it was the largest in Aruga, Portugal.

Sky Bridge 721, as it is known, is located in the northeastern part of the country, on the Kraliki Snனnik Mountains, near the Polish border and about 200 kilometers east of Prague.

It was built at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level. It connects two mountain peaks and rises up to 95 meters from the valley below.

Up to 500 people can be on the bridge at any one time, providing extraordinary views for visitors enjoying the heights. However, the number is halved in the first two weeks of opening.

Construction took two years and cost about 200 million Czech crowns (approximately R $ 40 million). Winds of 135 km / h (84 mph) will cause the bridge to close for safety reasons.

While others argue that the city, which has a population of less than 500, will attract many tourists, critics say the site is too large for its surroundings.

Czech Tourism hopes that this bridge will attract tourists from all over the world.

Theo Skipens, 59, is from the Netherlands and was one of the first people to walk on the bridge. “Wonderful, impressive, the bridge is moving, so you think something is going to happen,” he said.

“I wonder what happens when the wind blows. The weather is good and we are very blessed.
