Potatoes
Archie Davies, a 9-year-old Welshman, took a packet of frozen chips to the family for dinner that night after going on a trip with his parents to a supermarket chain in Asda, his home country. While preparing the potatoes, the boy noticed that there was a bigger potato in the package than the others. After roasting them, curiously, he showed the food to his parents, who made sure to measure its size and found it to be over 20 cm.
Curious to see if this could be a world record, the boy’s family looked in the Guinness Book of Records and found the record to be exactly 22.3cm. So they took out a measuring tape to accurately measure the boy’s potatoes. And there was a new record for the largest potato. In practice, Archie’s potato is 22.86 cm. As a result, he decided to name the potato Geoff.
“He was so excited when we found her. We contacted Guinness to see if it really was a world record as we think the previous record was 22.3cm,” said Archie’s mother Laura.
“Archie wants to learn all about world records. At the moment (Geophil) he said no one is allowed to touch it and he doesn’t know if we’ll ever make it. I think Archie would like to be famous because of it,” he added.
