In Nova York, Queens District is one of the areas most severely affected by the floods caused by the storm. She was at home with her nine-year-old and ten-month-old baby when the water started coming in. “It was so fast. A lot of people screamed for help. The water reached their necks,” he says.
In the kitchen, the water entered with such force that it opened the cupboards and threw everything on the floor, over the sink, everything turned and the water sign could be seen on the wall. The family was the only survivor as they managed to escape to the first floor of the building.
“We bought everything with a lot of sacrifice and lost everything in an instant,” he says. The rest, she tries to recover by drying out.
Kelly’s twins were able to save a few toys. Almost everything in the game room in the basement ended up in the trash.
“The TV, the sofa, the fridge were all floating. It was so scary. At least we were healthy. Across the street, a couple and a two-year-old child died. It was very sad,” Kelly says.
