Goat cheese Olavidia from the Spanish brand Quesos y Besos surpassed the soft, cottage-style French rival of Fromacari Bertat, and won the World’s Best Cheese Award for 2021 on Wednesday (3).
The “World Cheese Awards” competition is promoted annually by the International Cheese Festival. The 33rd edition took place in Oviedo, Spain, where 4,000 cheeses from five continents were judged by 250 international judges.
According to “CNN” Olavidia received 103 expert votes against 98 for the French cheese, which led to the match until the last minute.
During the broadcast of the event, British Judge Jason Hinds described to colleagues as goat cheese with a “rich, attractive and creamy texture”.

The evaluators included food scientists, cheese sellers, chefs and evaluated the appearance, aroma, texture and taste of each service.
Currently, there is a waiting list for Olavidia on the brand’s website. A box containing 300 grams of product costs 15 euros, about R $ 95.50.
In the final edition of the event in 2019 in Bergamo, Italy, the American blue cheese won the Rock River Blue. In 2020, the competition was canceled due to Govt-19.
