Switzerland vetoed re-export of ammunition used by German Geoffrey anti-aircraft tanks. The government said on Tuesday that Germany plans to send armored vehicles to Ukraine.
Germany has previously announced that it will supply heavy weapons to Ukraine to help prevent Russian attacks after weeks of internal and external pressure.
The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) has confirmed the broadcaster’s report of the SRF, which has barred Gepard from sending ammunition to Ukraine.
The SECO received two requests from Germany to replace the ammunition it had previously received from Switzerland to Ukraine. One of them was about 35mm of ammunition for a cupboard tank. 12.7mm ammunition involved another, the company answered a question.
“Two German requests from Switzerland regarding relocations to Ukraine were met with a negative response, with Swiss neutrality and mandatory criteria for rejecting Swiss war material law,” the SECO said.
Following the Swiss veto, the SRF said it was unclear what ammunition Germany was sending to Ukraine with Kebert.
Switzerland abandoned the previous practice and accepted EU sanctions aimed at punishing Russia for invading Ukraine. Its neutrality would not allow the supply of weapons for use in conflict zones, he said.
Last month, he rejected Poland’s arms request to help neighboring Ukraine.
Recipients must declare that Switzerland generally refuses to re-export munitions without permission.
