An SUV crashed into a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and injuring 40, local police said.
“We can confirm that five people have died and 40 have been injured. However, those numbers may change as we gather more information,” Waukesha County police said in a statement.
International agencies say at least 12 children were among the injured.

The incident took place just after 4:30 pm (local, GMT 10:30 pm) during the annual parade in Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee.
“A red van entered our Christmas parade,” said Police Chief Dan Thompson. An investigation is underway, “he said, adding that the driver had been identified and detained.
The officer noted that there was no other threat.

The “Journal Sentinel” reported that the footage showed the SUV speeding towards the parade.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said he and his wife “pray for Waukesha” and “all affected children, families and community members.”
