Health Minister Sergei Minilo said 71 patients were in the ICU at the time of the accident, 13 of them with mechanical ventilation support. Nine of the dead patients were attached to respirators.
Minoilo explained that the deceased’s lungs had already been affected about 90% before the tube ruptured.
According to the Russian minister, the problem was quickly identified and resolved within 30 to 40 minutes. Other patients were assisted with “oxygen cylinders and support brackets”. The reasons are still under investigation.
Other incidents in Russia
Russia has experienced other cases of treating patients with corona virus in hospitals since the onset of the infection.
In June, three people died in a fire at a hospital in Ryazan, southeast of Moscow. A month ago, two fires were caused by a failure of a ventilator Six died at hospitals in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
