Jimmy Kimmel, everything everywhere and an ass: Highlights from the 2023 Academy Awards
Everything everywhere at once Dominate the 95th Academy Awards, which took place Sunday night at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater.
Michelle Yeoh took home the award for Best Actress, becoming the first Asian woman and the second woman of color to win the trophy. The film also won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for writer/directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
Brendan Fraser cemented his comeback by winning Best Actor for Whalewhile Everything is everywhere Stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Ki Hui Kwan took home the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor awards, respectively.
The night wasn’t without controversy, with criticism directed at Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with Malala and an agonizing reunion between model Ashley Graham and “obnoxious” Hugh Grant.
Many also felt that Angela Bassett deserved an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Instead, the award went to Jamie Lee Curtis, prompting what many viewers described as a “genuine” reaction from Bassett.
There were plenty of daring looks on the “champagne” carpet this year, including Rihanna who showed up in a crop top, boots, and a bucket hat.

However, Lemmon failed to address what many viewers saw as clear criticism aimed at him by the Academy Award winner in her speech.
