More than 50 immigrants were killed when a car overturned in Mexico

At least 53 people were killed Thursday when a car carrying migrants crashed into a road in Mexico’s Chiapas province, state prosecutors said.

A further 54 people were injured, according to the Chiapas MP. The state borders Guatemala and is a major access point for undocumented immigrants in southern Mexico.

Guatemalan President Alejandro Chiamate also spoke about the accident. “I deeply regret the tragedy in the state of Chiapas and extend my condolences to the families of the victims and we provide them with all necessary diplomatic assistance, including repatriation,” Giamate said.
