Initially, police announced three deaths, but the number of victims increased dramatically when firefighters reached the upper floors and found the bodies of dozens of workers.
Dhaka Fire Department chief Dinu Moni Sharma said the fire had spread due to the accumulation of flammable chemicals and plastics stored inside the factory.
