Kim Kardashian Legally Single: Reality Star Scores Court Victory in Ugly Divorce Battle With Kanye West After He Tried to Stop It
Kim Kardashian is officially a single woman, even as her divorce from Kanye West continues.
A judge announced the Keeping Up With The Kardashian star, 41, after a court hearing Wednesday morning regarding her divorce from the 44-year-old rapper, according to PA.
The change in her status comes after her ex-husband tried to slow their divorce by challenging their prenuptial agreement in court.
Moving On: Judge Kim Kardashian, 41, announced that she is legally single after her Wednesday morning court hearing regarding her divorce from the 44-year-old rapper, according to PA. Seen in November in New York City
With Kardashian’s new solo status comes a change in her name, as she officially ditched “West” and legally reverted back to being Kim Kardashian.
Sources previously reported TMZ West was unlikely to attend the hearing, and he ended up not attending.
Kim wasn’t in the courtroom in person, but she joined remotely via a video call.
According to the outlet, the rapper’s lawyer did not object to Kardashian’s declaration of celibacy, but they registered his requests prior to her announcement of celibacy.
Inescapable: West – who was not present – did not object by way of his counsel, but asked the judge to allow the money to be divided between the two to go to the other partner in the event of the death of one of them, which he agreed; Seen in 2016 in New York City
The judge was amenable to the rapper Flashing Lights’ request that any money she intended to split between the two would revert to the other’s ex should one of them die.
However, the judge denied West’s other requests regarding the transfer of assets and a “marital lien.”
The producer asked the judge to prevent his ex-wife from transferring any assets she was holding in trusts, which they denied.
They also blocked his request for Kardashian to waive her right that anyone she would marry in the future be able to refuse to testify about the contacts they had with her.
Kardashian’s new legal status means that West is also legally single, and a source close to the rapper has claimed to TMZ that he also wants to pursue a divorce, though this is not in keeping with his court delay tactics or his public statements about trying to get his wife back.
TMZ previously reported that West had fired his fourth divorce attorney, Chris Melcher, prior to the hearing.
The two reportedly had little contact, and the attorney had trouble adjusting to the changing goals of the killer-maker, as he moved from accepting a divorce to trying to fight it in court.
