The German government approved the delivery of 2 tanks to the Panther Ukraine And it is ready to authorize at least one company to replace the Leopard 2A6 model, Der Spiegel magazine and television station NTV reported on Tuesday (24).
Its government will also approve other countries’ requests that the tanks come from the German military and be sent to Ukraine, as was done by Poland, which was announced this Tuesday.
The Panther 2 was manufactured in Germany, so export of these tanks by other countries had to be approved by the Berlin government.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that the information published by Der Spiegel will be confirmed today (25), Bild newspaper reported.
Several months ago, Ukraine requested the deployment of Panther 2s to control the advance of Russian troops, but Germany did not approve it.
Within the country’s coalition government, conflicting positions emerged on the issue. The official argument for refusal is that any deployment must be coordinated with Western allies who support Kiev.
Cheetah 2 can carry four passengers and fire at targets up to 5 km away. The tank weighs about 60 tons and can reach a speed of 70 km/h, can ford floods and rivers up to 4 m deep, and has a periscope.
