Drivers criticize “Mickey Mouse”, “Formula E” Miami Formula One chicken

The Miami International Autodrome will host the inaugural Grand Prix on Sunday, having been designed within the campus of Hard Rock Stadium.

The circuit is inspired by a number of classic Formula 1 corners, and combines high-speed sections with long straights and a slow-speed undulating section entering the second sector.

But chicane inside the slow pace department has been the site of a number of laps and fouls over the weekend so far. It is designed to slow cars down as they descend on the highway passing over the track.

While Ricciardo was generally positive about the track layout, saying it was “not like any circuit” and that the designers had done a “good job” making something unique, he felt the slow-speed section was too tight.

“The Mickey Mouse stuff is a little too Mickey Mouse, I think,” said Ricardo.

“These cars are really big these days, and I think it was quoted before that I said the tracks only fit cars. So obviously this is a case where it’s very narrow in places.

“It’s built around a stadium so there’s no open plan to do everything, so I’m sure there are some limitations to what they can do.”

Ricardo McLaren colleague Lando Norris He said he also enjoyed the overall layout of the track and that it had “good potential”, but felt the track had “crashed and screwed up”.

But Norris so much needed to walk safely down the highway meant that it simply wasn’t possible to take out Turn 14-15.

“I was told it was not possible because of the bridge going over the top,” Norris said.

“Cars are only allowed at a certain speed, so they had to mark the road. I was told there was a reason they had to be put in the car. So maybe we’re kind of stuck with it.”

“I hope not. I’m sure there is another way around that. But as Daniel said, I don’t think there are many ways around it.”

AlphaTauri Pierre Gasly He found the design “really interesting”, albeit “a bit bumpy” in places, and made the same point about chicane, when compared to Formula E.

Turn one, turn three, turn five, it’s quite bumpy, but after that, I really like the high-speed section,” Gasly said.

“You can cut through barriers and take a lot of speed in there, it’s really cool.

“I’m not a big fan of Formula E Chicana, it’s very tight there. I prefer the high-speed corners, especially with the cars we have.

“But overall, I have to say it’s a really great track to drive on.”

Lewis Hamilton He posted on his Instagram account after qualifying: “I really like this track [in] Miami. Chicane is the only thing that could be better but other than that, I loved it! “
