A series of videos posted on social media this Sunday (15) show intense attempts to leave the Afghan capital, Kabul, after the Taliban, an Islamic fundamentalist organization, seized power.
The images reveal a real urgency for the city’s airport, which is the only alternative way out of the country as the Taliban dominate the borders at the moment.
In the afternoon, the group took control of the main Bull-e-Sarki prison in Kabul, releasing thousands of prisoners, as well as videos posted on social media.
Without the protection of the US government, which has withdrawn most of its soldiers from the country, President Ashraf Ghani will leave Afghanistan to avoid “bloodshed,” according to a post he posted on social media.
At night, the main road leading to Kabul airport – Afghanistan tried to escape and thousands of American soldiers tried to defend their retreat from the city – was joined by Afghan troops in uniform with Taliban fighters.
Many Western countries, including the United States, Germany and France, are closing their embassies and trying to expedite the eviction of officials and civilians.
The Taliban, a group that has become synonymous with fundamentalist extremism, returned to power this Sunday (15), 20 years after the September 11, 2001 attack on the United States in Afghanistan.
Forces entering Kabul for the first time since October 13, 2001, have opened the way for enemy forces of the Northern Alliance known as the US and British bombs.
