In Mumbai, India, an estimated 2,500 people have been vaccinated with salt water instead of the Govt-19 vaccine. According to CNN affiliate News18, the group bought fake vaccines from a criminal organization. So far 14 people have been arrested.
Mumbai police on Thursday (1) asked for the revocation of the license of Sivam Hospital where doctors and other staff were involved in the scheme. The investigation found that 12 campaigns for the fake salt water vaccine were conducted from May 25 to June 6.
“They used salt water and paid for it,” said Vishal Thakur, a local police official. “All the fake vaccine sites they did did it.”
The organizers of the project earned up to 000 28,000 (approximately R $ 140,000) from the sale of counterfeit vaccines. “We arrested the doctors and they use a hospital that produces fake certificates, vials and syringes,” Thakur says.
CNN reported that 14 people had been arrested on charges of fraud, attempted murder, conspiracy and other offenses.
Of the 2,500 people who were deceived, most belonged to a housing community in Mumbai. “It simply came to our notice then [das vacinas]. We had to pay the money and none of us had any reaction, ”says one resident.
