A Russian Su-27 fighter jet on Tuesday hit the propeller of a US “Reaper” military surveillance drone, which crashed into the Black Sea in an incident deemed “irresponsible” by the US military.
Two Russian Su-27 jets intercepted the US spy drone and crashed one of them. Several times before the conflict, Russian warplanes refueled the drone and flew in front of it in unsafe maneuvers, the US military said in a statement.
“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace when a Russian aircraft was intercepted and attacked, resulting in a total loss of the MQ-9,” US Air Force General Hecker said. .
According to a White House spokesman, the Russian operation was unsafe, unprofessional and reckless.
US President Joe Biden was informed about the incident. Russia has yet to comment on the case.
