At the end of the first half of Sunday Night Football, the Los Angeles Chargers lead the San Francisco 49ers 16-10.
Charger was helped by several San Francisco errors in the first half, including Brandon Aiyuk’s fumbling and a block by Mitch Wichnowski’s kick. Each of these blunders led to a field goal in Los Angeles, which was responsible for the Chargers’ advance as they headed into the break.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles defense surprisingly bottled Christian McCaffrey (8 carrying for 18 yards) and Elijah Mitchell (5 carrying for 23 yards), instead getting burned by Jimmy Garoppolo’s improvisation (33-yard pass to Ray McCloud) and later Sneak quarterback. Justin Herbert was effective in the passing game, completing 14 of 21 passes for 161 yards and touchdowns, with Austin Eckler (6 passes for 37 yards) and DeAndre Carter (3 for 70 and score) doing most of the damage. However, Herbert was removed from the match at the end of the first half after being hit in the head by Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was kicked out of the competition.
Will the chargers just stop being annoying, or will the Niners come back? We’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, keep it closed to our live blog throughout the rest of the evening as we update you with stats, scores and features.
